Rego & Bleed?
When printing your artwork you don't want to risk seeing a white edge or movement of the CMYK plates. That is where Registration and Bleed come in. Registration is a symbol used to ensure precision lining up of the four colour plates to ensure when the press can be setup precisely. Bleed is the fancy work describing the method to allow extra room outside of the trim size to make sure your artwork prints beautifully to the edge and beyond, so that when it is trimmed and minor movement isn't going to show any unprinted paper.
Low-res / High-res?
This is a common question and can get tricky so let's keep it simple. You'll hear the term "DPI", which stands for “dots per square inch". Imagery used for online or digital display are generally low resolution set to 72dpi, where as printing will use high resolution imagery which is generally 300dpi for photos, and 2400dpi for sharp Vector Graphics, such as logos and illustrations and graphs.
RGB / CMYK / PMS... WTF?
These are terms you'll hear, and they refer to colour spaces. RGB is made up of light and refers to the Red, Green and Blue channels of light which are used to create many millions of colours. The same format that colour is displayed on your TV, computer or device. CMYK is made up of ink also known as Four Colour Process or Full Colour. These inks are used for printing when converting your artwork for print. Shades of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black are used to achieve millions of colours. For special printing requirements outside of the colour range of CMYK (such as Metallic Inks) PMS refers to the Pantone Matching System which has single ink colours nearing the 2000 mark. While more expensive than CMYK printing there are certain results that cannot be achieved without these special techniques.
